Cape Byron Lighthouse
Built 1901, automated 1989. The most easterly and most powerful lighthouse on the Australian mainland — and the postcard image of Byron itself.
Half-day, full-day and private guided tours of Cape Byron, the lighthouse and Australia's most easterly point — paired with Wategos Beach, The Pass, Bangalow village and the Northern Rivers hinterland. Pickups from the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
Byron Bay sits on the traditional Country of the Bundjalung Nation's Arakwal people — a place known as Cavvanbah, the meeting place. Today it's one of the most loved stretches of coastline in Australia, equally famous for its lighthouse, its waves and its barefoot wellness energy.
Our guided day tours showcase the region's most iconic coastal scenery — from the heritage-listed Cape Byron Lighthouse (built 1901, still shining over the Pacific) to the surfers carving turns at The Pass, the gentle turquoise of Wategos Beach, and the boutique village charm of Bangalow and Brunswick Heads.
We've designed the tours around plenty of free time in Byron's village centre so you can swim, eat, browse markets or simply sit by the water — paired with guided stops at the spots most visitors miss when they self-drive: hidden lookouts, local cafés, and the storied hinterland.
From the lighthouse precinct managed by NSW National Parks to the surf breaks, the village and the rolling hinterland behind it. Real places, on every tour.

Each season brings a different mood — and a different reason to come. We run tours every day of the year except Christmas Day.
Peak beach season. Warm seas (24–26°C), busy markets, big festivals like Falls. Book accommodation early and plan early starts to beat the heat.
Many locals' favourite — mild days, clear skies, fewer crowds and the Byron Bay Bluesfest at Easter. Ideal for the lighthouse walk and hinterland visits.
Whale-watching season starts. Warm days (still 18–22°C), quieter beaches and the best chance of seeing humpbacks from the lighthouse headland.
Whales heading south with calves, perfect swimming temperatures returning, wildflowers in the hinterland. Arguably the best all-rounder window.
"Saw three koalas in the wild on the way down, and a pod of dolphins right off Wategos. Our guide spotted things we'd have walked straight past. Genuinely one of the best days of our Australia trip."
"We did the private luxury option — Mercedes from our Brisbane hotel, finished up with a gin tasting at Brookie's. Worth every cent. The flexibility to linger at the lighthouse longer than planned made the day."
"The Bangalow add-on completely changed the day for us. Such a beautiful village, and the Three Blue Ducks lunch at The Farm was unreal. We'd never have found it self-driving."
Comfortable walking shoes for the lighthouse precinct (some steps and a short uphill). Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses. Swimsuit and towel if you fancy a dip at Wategos.
Lunch is at your own cost so you can pick what you fancy in Byron village. Bring a refillable water bottle — there are fountains at the lighthouse and Main Beach.
Watch for kangaroos in the grasslands near the lighthouse, dolphins in Wategos, and humpback whales (Jun–Nov). Bring binoculars if you have them — Cape Byron is one of the best whale-watching headlands in Australia.
The lighthouse lawn at golden hour, the most-easterly-point marker, the stairs down to Little Wategos, the surfers at The Pass, and the heritage shopfronts of Bangalow.
The Cape Byron State Conservation Area is no-smoking and pet-free (assistance dogs excepted). Stay on the designated paths — cliff edges are dangerous and not all are fenced.
The lighthouse precinct can be accessed by car with advance arrangement (call NPWS Byron 02 6639 8300). Most of the walking track is not wheelchair-accessible — let us know your needs at booking.
