Whale Watching Cruise — FAQ

When can you do a whale watching cruise from Byron Bay?

The season runs roughly June to November, when migrating humpback whales pass close to the coast off Cape Byron. Exact operating dates and departure times change each year, so check current details when you enquire. Outside the season we can plan a coastal cruise or a Byron day tour instead.

Are whale sightings guaranteed?

No — these are wild animals, so sightings are never guaranteed. That said, the winter–spring migration is one of the most reliable on the coast, and many operators offer a sighting guarantee or a return cruise; conditions vary, so check current details.

What if the weather is bad?

Cruises are weather- and sea-dependent and can be postponed or cancelled for safety. We keep an eye on conditions and help you rebook if a trip can’t run. Bring a warm layer, sun protection and any motion-sickness remedy you need.

Can you also watch whales from land?

Yes — the Cape Byron headland is one of the best land-based whale spots on the coast. See whale watching and the blog on when to see whales.

How much does it cost?

We tailor the day to your group and arrange the cruise per enquiry rather than list fixed prices. Tell us your dates and group for a quote.
