The Rim Walk

Kings Canyon Day Tour

South-west of Alice Springs, in Watarrka National Park, Kings Canyon rears up in sheer walls of ancient sandstone. The reward is the Rim Walk — a roughly three-hour circuit that climbs steeply, then traces the canyon rim past domes, lookouts and a hidden pocket of greenery. It is a long day out and back from Alice, so we start early to walk in the cool of the morning and handle the driving, the timing and the Parks Pass. Many travellers also take it in en route to Uluru. Family-owned since 1974, tailored and quoted per enquiry.

Kings Canyon Day Tour — FAQ

What does the Kings Canyon day tour include?

A big day south-west to Watarrka National Park and the famous Rim Walk high above the canyon — with the long driving, the Parks Pass and the timing handled so you can focus on the walk. Tailored and quoted per enquiry.

How long is the day?

It is a long day — Kings Canyon is a fair way south-west of Alice Springs. We start early to walk in the cooler morning and be back the same day. Many travellers instead do it en route to Uluru; see our Uluru tour from Alice Springs.

How hard is the Rim Walk?

The Rim Walk takes around three hours or more and starts with a steep climb, then follows the canyon rim. It suits reasonably fit walkers; there is a shorter, easier creek-bed option. We advise on the day and current conditions.

When is the best time to go?

The cooler months, roughly April to September, are best, and we walk early in the day — summer is very hot. See the best time to visit.
