Australia's biggest state has comparatively few Big Things — but the ones it does have are genuinely distinctive. The 15-metre DNA Tower in Perth's Kings Park, the 7.5-metre Big Lollipop at Ravensthorpe (the world's largest freestanding lollipop, opened in 2019), plus a scattering of Wheatbelt and Coral Coast oddities. WA's never followed the eastern states' trends — and it shows.
Western Australia covers a third of the continent and 2.6 million square kilometres — but the Big Things are clustered in three main areas: Perth and the South West, the Wheatbelt corridor inland of Perth, and the Coral Coast running north to Carnarvon. The rest is desert.
The three Big Things that define the WA scene — a piece of public-art science education, a 21st-century newcomer, and a Wheatbelt-town tribute.
15m dramatic double-helix staircase in Kings Park — 101 steps to panoramic views over the Perth CBD and Swan River. One of Australia's more intellectually ambitious Big Things.

If you'd rather link the icons into a multi-day drive, here are three classic WA routes — though WA's vast distances mean Big Things tend to be incidental stops rather than the main event.
3–5 days, easy. Perth-based loop taking in the DNA Tower (Kings Park), the Big Orange at Harvey, the Giant Tingle Trees at Walpole, and the Big Lollipop at Ravensthorpe.
3–4 days, easy. Perth east through the Wheatbelt — the Big Camera at Meckering, the Big Tap at Northam, and Wave Rock at Hyden. Mostly farmland, golden-canola in spring.
7–10 days, ambitious. Perth north to Exmouth — Big Crayfish at Dongara, Big Crab at Carnarvon, plus Ningaloo Reef. Properly long-haul WA driving.
