When to Go

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

Australia is year-round but the best region shifts with the seasons. Here's the quick guide.

🌸
Spring
Perfect All Round

Great Ocean Road and Melbourne shine. Queensland hits its sweet spot — warm but not oppressive. Best season for the Red Centre before summer heat sets in.

Beach Season North

Avoid Far North QLD (wet season stingers). Tasmania, Victoria and the south are brilliant. East Coast beaches are at their best. Book early — it's peak season.

Crowd numbers drop, prices soften, conditions stay excellent. Queensland coast is stunning, the Red Centre is comfortable. Arguably the smartest time to travel.

Winter
Queensland's Peak

Queensland's dry season is the East Coast's finest hour — clear skies, no humidity, warm water. Perfect for Cairns, Whitsundays and the Daintree. Book 8+ weeks ahead.

DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

★★★★★

"Booked the East Coast Hop solo not knowing anyone. By Noosa I had a crew. By Cairns I had friends I'll keep for life. Cooee makes it embarrassingly easy to just have fun."

"The Red Centre is one of the most profound places I've ever been. Watching sunrise at Uluru with 8 other people instead of a crowd of 300 — that's what Cooee's small groups give you."

Common Questions

GOT QUESTIONS?

None at all. Our tours are designed for first-timers and experienced travellers equally. Your guide handles all logistics, navigation and local knowledge — you just need to show up with a sense of adventure. Solo travellers are very welcome and make up a large part of every group.

Typically 20–35 on East Coast and short tours, skewing slightly older on our wilderness expeditions like the Kimberley and Overland Track. There's no strict age limit — we've had 60-year-olds on the Red Centre tour who were the best value people in the group. We match tour descriptions to fitness requirements honestly so you can choose the right trip.

It depends on the tour. City and coastal routes use curated hostels — private twin and dorm options available. Wilderness routes use bush camps with tents and swags provided. We always describe the accommodation type clearly in each tour listing. No surprises.

Absolutely — solo travellers make up more than half of our bookings. No single supplements on most tours. Our small group format means you'll be chatting to everyone within the first hour. Many of our best reviews come from people who arrived solo and left with people they're still friends with years later.

Transport between all destinations, accommodation each night, all listed activities, national park entry fees, and camping gear where applicable. Food and drinks are generally not included — you'll buy your own meals locally. We list exactly what's included on every tour page so there are no grey areas.

East Coast Hop has daily departures so a week or two ahead is usually fine. For the Red Centre, Kimberley and Tasmanian tours, we recommend 4–8 weeks — groups of 12 fill fast, especially in peak season (June–August for Queensland, September–November for the rest). The Kimberley regularly sells out 3 months in advance.
