Visa & Entry Requirements for Australians

Australian passport holders enjoy excellent access to Europe. Here's what you need to know.

Schengen Area — Visa Free

Australian passport holders can enter all 27 Schengen countries — including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Portugal and more — visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. No pre-application required.

ETIAS — Launching 2025

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will require a simple online pre-registration before travel to the Schengen Area. It costs €7 and is valid for 3 years. Cooee Tours assists all guests with ETIAS applications as part of our booking service.

UK — Electronic Travel Authorisation

Since January 2025, Australians visiting the United Kingdom require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). It costs £10, is applied for online, and is valid for multiple trips over 2 years. We handle this for all UK-bound guests.

Croatia — Schengen Since 2023

Croatia joined the Schengen Area in January 2023, making Adriatic itineraries combining Croatia with Italy, Slovenia, and Greece seamless. No internal border checks — your 90-day Schengen allowance covers Croatia too.

Our experts handle the paperwork.

Cooee Tours manages all ETIAS, UK ETA, and any other entry requirements as part of your booking. You focus on packing — we handle the red tape.

WHY COOEE TOURS

European Specialists Since 1974

Five decades of sending Australians to Europe — here's what makes us different.

We've Actually Been There

Every destination we recommend has been personally visited and vetted by our team. Our European specialists have lived and worked in Europe — they know which hotel has the best breakfast view and which market opens on Tuesdays.

Small Groups, Big Experiences

Maximum 16 guests means we skip the tourist queues, access places large groups never see, eat at restaurants that don't do bus groups, and you actually hear the guide when they're speaking. Small group travel is simply better travel.

24/7 On-Trip Support

Our Brisbane office operates around the clock when groups are travelling. Flight cancelled? Strike disrupting the rail network? Unexpected illness? We have contingency plans for every scenario and a real human answers the phone — any time.

Hand-Picked Accommodation

We stay in character-rich hotels in the actual city centre — not airport strips or chain hotels on the outskirts. A former Renaissance palazzo in Florence, a harbour-view hotel in Dubrovnik, a boutique castle hotel in the Loire Valley. Location and character matter.

Local Guides, Real Stories

Our local European guides are not just licensed — they're passionate historians, foodies, and storytellers who live where you're visiting. An Athenian showing you the Acropolis. A Roman taking you to their family's trattoria. The difference is palpable.

Transparent, All-Inclusive Pricing

No hidden fees, no surprise supplements, no single traveller penalties on most tours. Our price includes accommodation, guided excursions, intercity transport, selected meals, and entrance fees. You'll know your total cost before you book — full stop.

What Our European Travellers Say

Real reviews from Australian travellers who explored Europe with Cooee Tours.

★★★★★

The Italian Highlights tour was genuinely life-changing. I've wanted to see the Amalfi Coast my whole life and Cooee delivered it perfectly — not a tourist bus in sight. Our guide Marco knew every back road, every local restaurant, every story behind every church. Just extraordinary.

We did the Grand European Tour for our 30th wedding anniversary. Twenty-one days, seven countries — and not one moment that felt rushed or exhausting. The group of 14 became like family by the end. We're already planning the Greece tour for next year. Cooee Tours is simply the best.

★★★★★

I was nervous travelling solo for the first time internationally. The Iberian Peninsula tour was the perfect choice — a brilliant group, a patient and funny guide named Isabel, and Spain and Portugal delivered everything the brochure promised and more. Santorini next year. Can't stop now.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

European Tours — Your Questions Answered

Everything Australians want to know before booking a European tour.

How long does a European tour from Australia take?

Most Cooee Tours European itineraries run 14–21 days, which allows time to cover 3–5 countries comfortably. Shorter 10-day highlights tours focus on a single country or region. Given the flight time from Brisbane (24+ hours), we recommend at least 14 days to make the journey truly worthwhile. Our custom itineraries can be tailored to any duration.

Do Australians need a visa to visit Europe?

Australian passport holders can enter the Schengen Area visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This covers 27 countries including France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Portugal, Netherlands, and more. The ETIAS travel authorisation (launching 2025) adds a simple €7 online pre-registration valid for 3 years. The UK requires its own ETA (£10, online). Cooee Tours assists with all entry requirements as part of your booking.

What is the best time of year to visit Europe from Australia?

Spring (April–May) is ideal — mild weather, spring flowers, lower prices, and smaller crowds than summer. Summer (June–August) is peak season and perfect for the Greek islands, Scandinavian midnight sun, and Croatia's coast. Autumn (September–October) brings harvest festivals, golden light, and fewer tourists at major sites. Winter (November–March) is magical for Christmas markets in Germany and Austria, and northern lights in Scandinavia.

How much does a European tour from Australia cost?

Our European tours start from $3,499 per person for land-only (14-day highlights). Adding international flights from Brisbane typically brings the total to $6,500–$12,000 per person depending on duration, countries, and accommodation standard. Luxury tours and custom itineraries are priced individually. We also offer flexible payment plans — contact us for details.

What is included in a Cooee Tours European package?

Most tour packages include: accommodation (3–5 star in central locations), guided sightseeing with local expert guides, intercity transport (trains, coaches, ferries, internal flights where required), selected meals (typically breakfasts daily + 4–6 dinners), and entrance fees to major attractions. International flights from Australia can be booked through us at competitive fares. Full inclusions are listed on each individual tour page.

Can I do a European river cruise with Cooee Tours?

Yes — river cruising is one of our specialities. We offer cruises on the Rhine, Danube, Douro, Seine, Rhône, and Moselle ranging from 7–14 days. All river cruises include cabin accommodation, all meals, guided shore excursions, wine and beer with dinner, and port charges. River cruises pair beautifully with a pre- or post-cruise city stay in Amsterdam, Budapest, Porto, or Paris. Ask us about combination packages.

Can I combine multiple European countries in one tour?

Absolutely — multi-country tours are our most popular format. Classic combinations include Italy and Greece, France and Spain, UK and Ireland, and our signature Grand European Tour spanning 7 countries over 21 days. Our custom itinerary service designs any combination around your interests, timeframe, and pace. There are no set rules — if you want 10 days in Italy and 4 in Croatia, we'll make it happen.

Is Europe safe for Australian travellers in 2026?

Europe remains one of the safest travel destinations for Australians. DFAT rates most Western European countries at "Exercise Normal Safety" — the lowest risk level. Cooee Tours continuously monitors DFAT advisories and our 24/7 support team responds immediately to any situation affecting travellers. We avoid all destinations with elevated advisories and have contingency protocols for every tour. Your safety is our first priority, full stop.

Do you cater for solo travellers on European tours?

Yes — solo travellers make up a significant proportion of our European groups. Most of our set-departure tours have no solo supplement, meaning you pay the same per-person price as a couple. Our small group format (max 16 guests) makes it easy to meet like-minded travellers. Many of our solo guests have told us their European tour with Cooee was the most social experience of their lives.

When should I book a European tour from Australia?

For peak summer travel (June–August), book at least 4–6 months in advance — popular tours and accommodation in places like Santorini and Cinque Terre sell out quickly. Shoulder season tours (April–May, September–October) can usually be booked 2–3 months out. Christmas market tours (November–December) sell out by July each year. Our advice: enquire as soon as you know your travel window — we can hold a spot while you finalise dates.
