From Canberra to the Snow

Canberra is the closest city to the New South Wales snowfields. Cooee Tours runs the coach down the Monaro to Perisher, Thredbo, Selwyn and Charlotte Pass — day trips, multi-day winter breaks, ski transfers and school snow camps, with an experienced driver handling the alpine run so you don’t have to.

Why From Canberra

The Capital is the Snow Gateway

The New South Wales snowfields sit in Kosciuszko National Park, and Canberra is the nearest city — roughly two to two and a half hours north of the resorts via the Monaro Highway through Cooma to Jindabyne, the alpine gateway town. That makes the capital the natural launch point: fly or drive into Canberra, then let the coach handle the run up to the snow.

The high country offers four distinct resorts. Perisher is the largest alpine resort in the country, with broad terrain across four villages. Thredbo has the longest runs and a year-round alpine village. Selwyn is the family and first-timer field with gentle slopes and snow play. Charlotte Pass is the highest and most secluded, reached over snow in winter. Cooee Tours has been moving groups since 1974, and the coach means no chains, no snow driving, and no parking scramble at the resort.

Ways to Do the Snow

  • Day trips from Canberra for a taste of the snow
  • One- and two-night winter breaks based in Jindabyne
  • Ski and board transfers to Perisher and Thredbo
  • Snow play for first-timers and families
  • School snow camps with coach charter and transfers
  • Canberra excursion plus snow, combined in one trip
  • Getting there: ~2–2.5 hrs from Canberra via the Monaro Highway through Cooma to Jindabyne; the resorts are 30–60 minutes beyond. The coach handles the alpine drive.
  • Season: June long weekend to early October, most reliable July to early September. Peak weekends and school holidays book out — reserve early.
  • Park entry: Kosciuszko National Park charges a winter park-entry fee; we factor it into your quote where relevant.
  • Gear: ski, board and clothing hire is available in Jindabyne and at the resorts; we can build a hire stop into the day.

We run coach charter and transfers for school snow programs, usually based around Jindabyne — and because Canberra is on the way, a snow camp pairs naturally with a national-capital excursion. See our Canberra school trips for the civics side of the program.
