Seasonal access only. Cape York Peninsula is accessible by road only during the dry season — May to October. The wet season (November to April) floods most tracks and closes roads across the Cape. All reputable 4WD tour operators run exclusively during the dry season. Book early — July and August departures fill months in advance.

Cape York Peninsula is one of the least-populated and most biologically diverse regions in Australia — 430km wide, 660km from Cairns to the Tip, bordered by the Coral Sea to the east and the Gulf of Carpentaria to the west. The Wenlock River contains more freshwater fish species than any other river in Australia. Ancient rainforest, tropical savannah, remote Aboriginal communities and pristine rivers combine in a landscape that feels genuinely untouched.

Standing at Pajinka — the Tip of Australia — with the Coral Sea and Arafura Sea meeting below and Papua New Guinea just 150km across the water, is one of the most powerful geographical experiences available to Australian travellers.
