1. Queens Park's Formal Beds — the Classic Shot

The Carnival's signature image: sweeping curved beds of tulips, ranunculus and poppies in blocks of saturated colour. Shoot low along the bed lines for depth, and come before 11am for soft light and fewer people in frame. The band rotunda makes a lovely backdrop.

2. Laurel Bank Park's Archways and Themed Displays

Laurel Bank rewards detail shots — floral archways, topiary and each year's themed display. The scented garden's tighter paths create natural leading lines that Queens Park's open lawns can't.

3. Picnic Point Lookout — the Landscape Break

Between garden shots, Picnic Point delivers the big vista: the Lockyer Valley and Table Top Mountain falling away below the range. Morning haze can be atmospheric; a polarising filter helps mid-morning.

4. Spring Bluff Railway Station

The heritage station with flowers cascading down its embankments is one of Queensland's most photogenic spots, full stop. The combination of old rail infrastructure and massed blooms is irresistible.

5. The Grand Central Floral Parade

On Saturday 19 September 2026, 30+ flower-covered floats roll along Margaret Street. Stake out a corner position for a longer view of approaching floats, and use a fast shutter — they move quicker than you'd think. Detail shots of individual floats often beat wide crowd scenes.

6. The Decorated Homes

Toowoomba residents dress their front gardens for the season, and some of the Carnival's most charming images come from suburban streets. Photograph from the footpath and respect that these are private homes.

7. Ju Raku En Japanese Gardens

For something completely different: still water, stone lanterns and reflections. Overcast days — flat and dull in the flower beds — are actually ideal here.

8. The Small Stuff

A macro lens (or your phone's macro mode) earns its place: single tulips backlit by morning sun, bees at work, petals after rain. When the wide shots are crowded, go close.
