When Is the 2026 Carnival?
The 77th Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers runs from Friday 18 September to Monday 5 October 2026, spanning three spectacular spring weekends. The headline Grand Central Floral Parade takes place on Saturday 19 September 2026, when 30+ flower-covered floats wind along Margaret Street into Queens Park. What's Free and What's Ticketed?
The good news: the Carnival's biggest drawcards — Queens Park's floral displays, Laurel Bank Park, the parade and the general festival atmosphere — are free to enjoy. Ticketed extras include some food and music events, selected private garden openings and premium parade seating. Most day visitors have a full and spectacular day without buying a single ticket.
Getting There (and the Parking Problem)
Toowoomba sits 125km west of Brisbane, up the Great Dividing Range at 700 metres. On festival weekends the city fills up fast: parking near Queens Park is genuinely scarce, and the range crossing can be slow with event traffic. A well-planned single day covers the highlights: Queens Park, Laurel Bank Park, a lookout stop at Picnic Point and free time among the markets and street entertainment. Accessibility
Queens Park and Laurel Bank Park both have paved, mostly level pathways, and festival organisers provide accessible facilities at major venues. Five Insider Tips
- Go early in the festival. The displays are planted to peak across the whole period, but the first weekend combines fresh blooms with the parade.
- Mornings beat afternoons. Softer light, cooler walking and thinner crowds in the major parks.
- Pack a layer. Toowoomba's altitude makes it noticeably cooler than the coast — often by 3–5°C.
- Don't skip the decorated homes. Suburban streets near the parks are dressed up for the season — a scenic drive reveals gardens you'd never find on foot.
- Book transport and accommodation early. The Carnival draws enormous crowds and both coach seats and hotel rooms sell out weeks ahead.
