The One Thing Everyone Forgets: a Warm Layer
Toowoomba sits 700 metres up the Great Dividing Range, and it's typically 3–5°C cooler than Brisbane — more when the breeze picks up on the range. September days are usually sunny and mild, but mornings at Picnic Point Lookout can be crisp. A light jacket or cardigan you can tie around your waist by lunchtime is the single best thing you'll pack.
Your Feet Will Thank You
Between Queens Park's 25 hectares, Laurel Bank's winding paths and free time around the Carnival precinct, you'll easily walk several kilometres. Comfortable, supportive walking shoes beat fashion every time — garden paths are mostly paved but some sections are grass or gravel.
Sun Protection (Yes, Even in September)
Queensland spring sun is stronger than it feels in the cool air. Pack a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen — most of the day is spent outdoors among the flower beds.

- Cash and card — most market stalls take cards, but small cash is handy
- Any personal medications — including hay fever relief if pollen affects you (this is a flower festival, after all!)
What to Leave at Home
Big umbrellas (a compact one is fine), heavy bags and heels. If you're travelling with us, the coach is your basecamp — you can leave spare layers and shopping on board between stops.
