Why Sydney

Where Australia Plays Its Members' Golf

Sydney's championship golf is fundamentally a member-club story. NSW Golf Club at La Perouse, Royal Sydney at Rose Bay, The Australian at Kensington, The Lakes at Eastlakes — these are private clubs with member traditions stretching back to the 1880s. Each holds national championship history; each maintains the kind of conditioning and clubhouse culture that earns the prestige.

For visitors, that means access depends on introduction. Cooee Tours has spent 35 years building the relationships that open these gates. We arrange the introduction, brief you on dress and pace expectations, manage the booking, and host you through the round. The result is genuine member-club hospitality, not tourist treatment.

Beyond the golf, Sydney is the harbour. We pair championship rounds with Sydney Opera House dining, harbour cruising, Bondi or Manly beach walks, and the sort of restaurants that earn international destination status. Four to seven days in Sydney is the sweet spot.

Sydney Beyond the Fairway

Cooee Sydney tours pair championship golf with the harbour city's defining experiences — Opera House dining, harbour cruising, Bondi and Manly. The non-golfers come back happiest.

Sydney Harbour

Private harbour charters, sunset sails past the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and lunch cruises to Manly or Watsons Bay. Pairs naturally with a non-golfing day.

🍽️

Sydney Dining

Quay, Bennelong, Tetsuya's, Aria — Sydney has more international destination restaurants than any other Australian city. We arrange tables at the right ones for your group.

🏖️

Bondi & Manly

The Bondi-to-Coogee coastal walk, Manly Wharf lunch via the Manly ferry, and Sydney's eastern beaches. A perfect non-golfing day for spouses and partners.

Practical Notes

Good to Know

  • Member-club access: All four featured Sydney venues are private members' clubs. A current handicap card and letter of introduction from your home club is required at most. Cooee handles the introduction in advance — booking through us avoids any surprises at the gate.
  • Dress code: Strict at all four clubs. Collared shirts (tucked in), tailored shorts to the knee or full-length trousers, golf shoes with soft spikes. No denim, athletic singlets, or trainers in clubhouses. Some clubs require jacket-and-tie in dining areas after the round. Our hosts brief you fully.
  • Distance from CBD and airport: NSW Golf Club is 30 min south. Royal Sydney is 15 min east. The Australian and The Lakes are both 15–20 min east. The Lakes is 8 min from Kingsford Smith — ideal for first-day or last-day arrivals.
  • Best time of year: March–May (autumn) and September–November (spring) are ideal — mild, low humidity, brilliant conditioning. Summer (Dec–Feb) is humid; early-morning rounds preferred. Winter (Jun–Aug) is mild and underrated for Sydney golf.
  • International visitors: Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) required for most international travellers. Sydney is a major international gateway — direct flights from London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Singapore, Auckland. We coordinate airport transfers and pre-arrange member-club introductions before your arrival.
  • Group sizes: 2 to 16 golfers. Larger groups handled with multiple vehicles and staggered tee times. Corporate days at NSW Golf Club and Royal Sydney warrant 8–12 weeks lead time given member-club calendar pressure.
  • Booking lead time: 6–10 weeks recommended for premium member-club access at NSW Golf Club, Royal Sydney, and The Australian. The Lakes is more flexible. Australian Open weeks (typically late November) require even earlier coordination.

What Golfers Say

★★★★★

"NSW Golf Club had been on my list for thirty years. Cooee made it happen — the introduction was seamless, the welcome at the gate was warm rather than awkward, and the round itself was as remarkable as I'd hoped. The 6th hole is genuinely one of the great holes in world golf."

"Four days in Sydney — Royal Sydney, The Australian, NSW Golf Club, The Lakes. Stayed at the InterContinental at Circular Quay. Harbour cruise on the rest day. We came as a group of eight and every single one of us is already planning to come back. Cooee made all of it look effortless."

Mike & the Wednesday Group

"Took twelve clients to Sydney for our annual corporate golf weekend — three rounds, harbour dinner, Opera House cocktails. The Cooee team handled the member-club introductions with diplomatic precision; nobody felt like a tourist. Best business-development weekend we've ever run."

Common Questions

Sydney Golf FAQs

Yes — through Cooee's 35-year relationships we hold visitor access at NSW Golf Club, Royal Sydney, The Australian, and The Lakes. We arrange the introduction, brief you on dress code and pace expectations, and handle the booking. A current handicap card or letter of introduction from your home club is required at most member venues.

NSW Golf Club consistently ranks inside the World Top 100 — Golf Digest places it around #36 globally, and Golf Magazine and Australian Golf Digest rate it among the very top Australian championship layouts. It hosted the Australian Open in 2009 and 2024 and is widely regarded as one of the most dramatic clifftop courses anywhere on the globe.

All four featured courses sit in eastern Sydney, between 15 and 30 minutes from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport and 15–25 minutes from the CBD. The Lakes is the closest to the airport (under 10 minutes), while NSW Golf Club at La Perouse is the most southerly. We coordinate transfers around tee times, traffic, and your accommodation location.

Strict. Collared shirts (tucked in), tailored shorts to the knee or full-length trousers, golf shoes with soft spikes, and no denim, athletic singlets, or trainers. Some clubs require jacket-and-tie in dining areas after rounds. Our hosts brief you fully before each round, and we arrange clubhouse tours where appropriate.

Yes — international golf tourism is one of our core specialities. We work regularly with travellers from the UK, USA, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. We coordinate Sydney Kingsford Smith airport transfers, arrange Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) advice, pre-arrange member-club introductions before your arrival, and can integrate harbour cruising, Opera House dining, and Bondi/Manly experiences alongside the golf.

Autumn (March–May) and spring (September–November) are ideal — mild temperatures, low humidity, brilliant course conditioning. Summer (December–February) is playable but humid; early morning rounds are preferred. Winter (June–August) is mild by world standards (10–18°C), often crisp and sunny, and arguably the most under-rated season for Sydney golf.

Call +61 (0) 409 661 342 or email info@cooeetours.com.au. A 25% deposit secures your booking; balance is due 14 days before your first tee time. For private member-club access at NSW Golf Club, Royal Sydney, and The Australian we recommend 6–10 weeks lead time.
