Kings Canyon Day Tour
Two hundred metres of sheer sandstone, a hidden garden of palms and a rim of weathered domes — Kings Canyon, in Watarrka National Park, is one of the Red Centre’s great walks. On this day tour we handle the long desert drive and guide you on the Rim Walk high above the gorge, or the easier shaded creek floor if you’d rather stay low. An early start, plenty of water and the driving taken care of. Family-owned since 1974, quoted per enquiry.
What to Expect
The Rim Walk
A ~6 km loop along the canyon edge with dramatic lookouts.
Kings Creek Walk
A gentle, shaded walk along the canyon floor beneath the walls.
First-Light Start
We set off early to walk in the cool before the heat builds.
The Long Drive
The hours of desert driving and park entry all taken care of.
Good to Know
- The Rim Walk is ~6 km with a steep start; the creek walk is easier — we match it to your group
- It is a long drive each way — expect a full day, or fold it into a multi-day trip
- Start early — the rim is exposed and desert days get hot; bring water, a hat and sun protection
- Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the rocky sections
- Prefer to combine it? See our Red Centre 3-day tour

Kings Canyon Day Tour — FAQ
What does a Kings Canyon day tour include?
A guided day at Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park — the Rim Walk high above the gorge, or the easier shaded creek-bed walk — with the long drive and park entry handled. Tailored and quoted per enquiry — get in touch.
How hard is the Kings Canyon Rim Walk?
The Rim Walk is a moderate loop of about 6 km that begins with a steep climb, then follows the canyon edge with dramatic lookouts before descending. The shorter Kings Creek walk along the floor is much easier — we match the walk to your group.
How far is Kings Canyon from Uluru?
Kings Canyon is a long drive from Yulara (allow several hours each way), so it makes a full day. Many visitors prefer to include it within a Red Centre 3-day tour to break up the driving.
When should we do the walk?
Early, before the heat — desert days get hot and the Rim Walk is exposed, so we start at first light and carry plenty of water. Cooler months are far more comfortable; see the best time to visit.
Is there a park entry fee?
Kings Canyon sits in Watarrka National Park, separate from Uluru-Kata Tjuta. We handle any park requirements as part of your tour — check current details, as conditions change.
