The South Burnett Rail Trail

The South Burnett Rail Trail is the region’s best car-free experience — a cycling and walking trail that follows the old railway on gentle, rail-graded slopes, linking Kingaroy, Wondai and Murgon and connecting onward to the wider Kilkivan rail-trail network. Rail trails make the easiest kind of riding: the grades were built for trains, so they never get steep, and the reward is country scenery and heritage towns rolling by at bakery pace.

Ride the whole line over a day or two, or pick a single town-to-town leg. Either way the trail threads gallery main streets, country parks, farmland and the occasional bakery — the South Burnett at its most unhurried.
