South Australia produces approximately half of Australia's total wine output, and Adelaide is the single best base for touring it. Four world-class wine regions sit within two hours of the Adelaide CBD — the Adelaide Hills (30 minutes east), McLaren Vale (45 minutes south), the Barossa Valley (one hour northeast) and Clare Valley (two hours north). We also run two-day overnight escapes combining Barossa and Clare. Coonawarra (the famous Cabernet region) is too far for a day tour at 4.5 hours south, but can be arranged as a private multi-day itinerary.

The Barossa is one of the closest premier wine regions to a major Australian city, so travel time is unusually low.

The Adelaide Hills is the easiest region to reach and the most appropriate for half-day touring, though our standard tour is a full-day experience covering four to five boutique cellar doors. McLaren Vale is the next closest at 45 minutes south.
