FAQ

North Africa — straight answers.

For both Egypt and Morocco, aim for the shoulder seasons of spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) — pleasant temperatures for sightseeing and desert travel. Winter (December–February) is mild and popular in Egypt (and cold in the Atlas at night). Summer is very hot, especially in Upper Egypt and the Sahara. See our best time to visit guide.
Morocco is visa-free for Australian passport holders for stays up to 90 days. Egypt requires a visa — available as a visa on arrival (USD $25) or an e-Visa in advance. Cooee arranges the Egypt e-Visa and confirms current requirements for you.
The essentials: the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx (the only surviving Ancient Wonder); the Valley of the Kings and Queens; Luxor's Karnak and Hatshepsut temples; Abu Simbel; and a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan. The new Grand Egyptian Museum near Giza displays the complete Tutankhamun collection. See our Egypt travel guide.
Morocco dazzles: Marrakech's medina and the Jemaa el-Fna at dusk; Fez, the world's oldest continuously inhabited medina; the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen; the High Atlas passes; and overnight Sahara camps at Erg Chebbi with camel trekking under the stars. See our Morocco travel guide.
They're at opposite ends of North Africa, so they're usually done as separate trips or linked via a European or Middle Eastern hub. Popular pairings are Morocco + Spain (via Gibraltar) and Egypt + Jordan (Petra). Cooee's multi-country specialists can structure either efficiently. See our itineraries guide.
