Two days is the plan we recommend most for the Red Centre. It gives Uluru the full day it deserves — dawn to dusk, on foot — and saves the second day for the great red domes of Kata Tjuta and the superb Valley of the Winds. It’s unhurried, it works around the desert heat, and it’s built entirely on walking the Country with respect for the Anangu. Here’s exactly how we’d shape it.
Day one is Uluru, dawn to dusk. Day two is Kata Tjuta and the Valley of the Winds. Two days, no rush.
Uluru, Dawn to Dusk
Sunrise
First light on the rock from a sunrise viewing area such as Talinguru Nyakunytjaku.
The Base Walk
The flat ~10 km loop past waterholes and rock art — or the shorter Mala and Kuniya walks.
Cultural Centre
Shade, and the Tjukurpa — the law and stories — from the Anangu.
Sunset
The rock glowing deep red; add the Field of Light after dark (check current details).
Kata Tjuta
Kata Tjuta Sunrise
The domes catching first light from the dune viewing area — quieter than Uluru.
Valley of the Winds
The signature walk winding between the great domes (start early before the heat).

Is two days enough for Uluru and Kata Tjuta?

Can you fit Kings Canyon into two days?

Can you climb Uluru on this itinerary?
No. The climb was permanently closed in October 2019 out of respect for the Anangu Traditional Owners. Both days experience Uluru on foot and from the viewing areas — see respecting Uluru.
