A Guided Day in Noosa

The Best of Noosa, on Foot & Free

Noosa is where the rainforest meets the sea — a place of headland trails, crystal-clear coves, and a village-like main street that feels more Mediterranean than Australian. Noosa National Park occupies the headland east of Main Beach, and its 5.4-kilometre Coastal Track is the headline experience: a clifftop walking trail from the Noosa Heads day-use area out to Sunshine Beach, contouring past a string of named landmarks — Boiling Pot lookout, Tea Tree Bay (the best section for koala spotting), Dolphin Point, Granite Bay, the famous Fairy Pools tidal rock pools, Hell's Gates, and Alexandria Bay ("A-Bay" to locals).

This guided day tour takes you through the highlights at a relaxed pace, with your guide setting the timing around tides and shade, sharing stories of the region's Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) heritage, and pointing out koalas dozing in the canopy. Sightings occur on approximately 90% of our walks. Beyond the trail, you'll have free time at Noosa Main Beach for a swim, lunch and shopping on Hastings Street, and a sunset stroll at Gympie Terrace on the Noosa River.

Suits Every Walker

The full Coastal Track is rated easy to moderate — formed paths with some rocky and stepped sections. For walkers who prefer something gentler, a shorter 2.5km Boiling Pot turnaround option keeps the highlights but skips the steeper portions. The Tanglewood Walk offers a cooler inland return route through subtropical rainforest, which doubles as the best koala-spotting section of the park.

Whether you're an avid walker, a keen photographer, or simply looking for a beautiful day by the ocean with someone else doing the driving and the timing, this tour delivers. We've been running Noosa day tours from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast since 1989.

What Our Guests Say

Real reviews from guests who've done the Noosa & Coastal Explorer tour with Cooee Tours.

★★★★★

The coastal walk was incredible — we saw three koalas and a pod of dolphins right from the headland. The guide timed it perfectly for low tide so we could swim at the Fairy Pools. Absolutely magical.

★★★★★

Noosa has always been our favourite spot but this tour showed us parts of the National Park we'd never found on our own. Hell's Gates was the highlight — those views are unreal.

Perfect balance of walking and relaxing. The kids managed the trail no problem, and having free time for lunch on Hastings Street was a nice touch. Highly recommend.

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking the Noosa & Coastal Explorer tour.

The full Coastal Track from the Noosa Heads day-use area to Sunshine Beach is 5.4km one way (around 2.5 to 3 hours at a relaxed pace with photo stops). A shorter 2.5km option (Boiling Pot to Tea Tree Bay turnaround) is available for those who prefer a gentler walk. The Tanglewood Walk offers a cooler inland return route for koala spotting.

Yes, when conditions allow. The Fairy Pools are tidal rock pools approximately 2.5km from the start of the Coastal Track — they're only accessible at low tide and quiet swell. Your guide checks the morning's conditions and builds the walk around the best tide window. Wear shoes with grip for the rocky descent.

Very. Noosa National Park has one of Australia's most accessible resident koala populations, and sightings occur on approximately 90% of our walks. The best spots are the canopy above Tea Tree Bay and along the Tanglewood Walk inland return. Your guide knows which trees the koalas favour on any given week — they move around with seasonal eucalypt growth.

Yes. School-aged children manage the Coastal Track well. For families with very young children, the shorter walk option (Boiling Pot turnaround, 2.5km) keeps things easy, and Main Beach is ideal for toddlers. Prams cannot navigate the full trail past Boiling Pot, which is the wheelchair-accessible turnaround point.

Light rain usually passes quickly and the rainforest sections of the Tanglewood and Palm Grove trails are atmospheric in the wet. If heavy rain makes the cliff trail unsafe, your guide will adjust the day — options include extra time at Hastings Street, a Noosa River cruise, or a gallery visit. Severe weather qualifies for a date transfer.

A light morning snack and bottled water are included. Lunch on Hastings Street is at your own expense so you can choose from the many restaurants, cafés, and takeaway options. Budget $20–$45 per person — Hastings Street sits at the higher end of Sunshine Coast dining. Your guide will recommend the best spots.

Door-to-door pickup from most Sunshine Coast accommodation between Caloundra and Noosa — including Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland, Cotton Tree, Twin Waters, Coolum, Peregian Beach, Sunshine Beach, and Noosaville. Your exact pickup time is confirmed by email after booking.

Pricing varies depending on group size, pickup location, and season. Please contact us on 0409 661 342 or via our enquiry form for current 2026 rates and availability.

Noosa & the Sunshine Coast — Everything You Need to Know

About Noosa

Noosa sits at the northern tip of the Sunshine Coast, about 90 minutes north of Brisbane and approximately 30 minutes north of Mooloolaba. It operates on a different frequency to the rest of the region — Hastings Street is a low-rise, tree-lined village strip with no high-rises and no neon. Just a beach town that happens to have exceptionally good food and one of Australia's most beautiful national parks on its doorstep. The Sunshine Coast as a whole lies on the traditional Country of the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people.

The Coastal Track Landmarks

The 5.4km Noosa National Park Coastal Track passes a sequence of named landmarks: Boiling Pot (first lookout, wheelchair-accessible), Tea Tree Bay (sheltered beach, prime koala spotting), Dolphin Point (year-round dolphin sightings), Granite Bay, Winch Cove and Picnic Cove (rarely-visited beaches), the famous Fairy Pools (tidal rock pools, low-tide access), Hell's Gates (dramatic clifftop bluff), and Alexandria Bay ("A-Bay" to locals, clothing-optional). Alternative shorter walks include Palm Grove (1.1km rainforest) and Noosa Hill (2.8km).

Wildlife & Best Seasons

Year-round koalas (90% sighting rate), goannas, brush turkeys, sea eagles, dolphins at Dolphin Point, and bottlenose dolphins in the Noosa River. Humpback whale migration runs May/June to October/November — Australia's east-coast population now numbers around 40,000 — visible from the headland lookouts. Best walking weather: autumn (March–May) and winter (June–August). Summer is warm and humid but the swim stops compensate. Brisbane's 2032 Olympic Games is bringing growing international interest to the Sunshine Coast.
