McLaren Vale’s warm days and cooling Gulf St Vincent breezes ripen Shiraz and Grenache beautifully, and the region has become a leader in old-vine Grenache and in Mediterranean varieties — Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Fiano and Vermentino — suited to a drying climate. Langhorne Creek’s deep alluvial soils give plush Cabernet Sauvignon, while the cooler Southern Fleurieu and Currency Creek lean to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and aromatic whites.
