Surf, capes & the Karri
The natural side is just as good. Watch the surf at Surfers Point, descend into the crystal chambers of the Lake, Jewel and Mammoth caves, and walk among giant Karri trees at Boranup. Follow the Cape to Cape coast to the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet, and stroll the record-breaking Busselton Jetty. In winter and spring, humpback and southern right whales pass close by. It's a region that rewards slow days.
Forests & the Great Southern
With more time, keep going. Pemberton and the southern forests hide the towering Gloucester and Bicentennial climbing trees; the coast leads on to Albany and the Great Southern — historic streets, the dramatic Gap and Natural Bridge, and superb whale watching in season. Cool-climate wineries around Denmark and the Porongurups add more cellar doors. It's a rewarding loop for those wanting to go beyond Margaret River itself.

Margaret River is about a 3-hour drive (270 km) south of Perth, via Bunbury and Busselton. It makes a great 3–4 day trip (day trips are possible but rushed).
