Rockhampton Travel Guide

Getting To & Around Rockhampton

Central Queensland's hub city is a full day's drive up the Bruce Highway from Brisbane — or a much shorter hop by air or rail.

Rockhampton sits roughly 640km north of Brisbane on the Bruce Highway — around a seven to eight hour drive, or a stopover point if you're continuing further north. For most visitors, flying or taking the train is the more practical option, with the drive better suited to those touring the coast along the way.

A new Ring Road is being built around Rockhampton as part of the Brisbane 2032 Delivery Plan, aimed at easing Bruce Highway congestion through the city.
