Rotorua is compact and easy to navigate. The town centre and lakefront are a pleasure to walk, while a car, local bus or guided tour gets you out to the geothermal parks, the Redwoods and the lakes. However you travel, the sights are close together and simple to reach — here's how to get around.
Driving & parking
A car is the most flexible way to explore. The main sights sit a short drive apart — Te Puia and the Redwoods minutes from town, Wai-O-Tapu about 30 minutes south, and the lakes ringing the city. Buses, tours & walking
No car? You're still well covered. The Baybus network runs local routes around town, and guided tours with hotel pick-ups reach the thermal parks, Māori villages and day-trip highlights.
