How we build a Paris stay for Australian travellers — usually as part of a longer European trip rather than on its own, and always with fewer things per day than people expect.
Ways to travel it
Paris in four days
The core — museums, neighbourhoods and one day trip, with dinners booked and the big three pre-ticketed.
- Best first-visit shape
- Central base
- Timed entry handled
- Extends easily
Paris and the regions
Paris plus Normandy, the Loire or Champagne, by train and car rather than long coach days.
- Typically 8–12 days
- Normandy for the D-Day coast
- Loire for the châteaux
- Champagne cellar visits
Food and wine in Paris
Market walks, bakery mornings, wine tastings and dinners chosen for the cooking rather than the view.
- Small group or private
- Dietary needs handled
- Bookings made ahead
- Pairs with Champagne
Paris for a first trip to Europe
The gentler version — fewer stops, more time, and a base you do not change.
- Slower pace
- Walking distances checked
- Accessible options on request
- Airport transfers included
If steps, walking distances or accessible transport matter for your group, tell us early. Paris has excellent step-free options but they are not evenly distributed across the metro.
How we plan a Paris stay
One major sight a day. The Louvre is half a day if you choose two wings and leave. Stacking it with Versailles is how a holiday becomes an endurance event, and it is the most common thing we talk people out of.
Everything timed, booked before you fly. The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, Versailles and Sainte-Chapelle all sell out in peak season. We book them into the itinerary rather than leaving them to chance.
Neighbourhoods carry the trip. Le Marais, Saint-Germain, Montmartre and the Canal Saint-Martin each make a good half day with no ticket at all, and they are what people remember.
Base matters more than star rating. Which arrondissement you sleep in shapes the walking, the eating and the metro time. If steps or walking distances are a factor, tell us early — Paris has excellent step-free options but they are not evenly spread.
