Beaudesert
Yilbagan
Gateway to the Scenic Rim's natural wonders and authentic country charm — on Mununjali Country, 70km south-west of Brisbane via the Mt Lindesay Highway.
Where Authentic Australia Comes Alive
Beaudesert is far more than a stopover on the Mt Lindesay Highway — it's a genuine country town where time slows down and authentic hospitality reigns supreme. Built on the back of the wool industry and steeped in agricultural heritage, this charming township serves as the perfect launching pad for exploring the magnificent Scenic Rim region.
Named around 1841 by an early sheep farmer (possibly for the Beaudesert estate of a noble family in Staffordshire, England), the livestock station was officially established as a town in 1876 once the Bethania Junction railway line reached it. Today, you'll discover a vibrant commercial centre hosting art galleries, the Beaudesert Historical Museum, and cultural treasures alongside working farms, acclaimed wineries, and artisan producers. The town's rich farming and equine heritage remains alive and well, offering visitors an authentic taste of rural Queensland life without the tourism gloss.
As the gateway to natural attractions including Mt Barney (1,359m), Mt Maroon, Lake Wyaralong, and the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, Beaudesert combines a thriving country community with wilderness adventures just beyond the town limits. Sitting at 50m elevation on the Logan River, the town enjoys a mild humid subtropical climate (mean max 25.6°C / min 12.6°C, annual rainfall ~905mm).
