World Heritage on the ranges
Several of the Scenic Rim's parks form part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area, protecting remnants of the rainforest that once covered the continent. The terrain ranges from gentle valley walks to serious alpine-style ascents.
Where to go
- Main Range National Park — escarpment forest and the well-known Cunningham's Gap and Spicers Gap walks.
- Mount Barney National Park — a rugged, remote peak best suited to experienced and prepared walkers.
- Moogerah Peaks — a cluster of volcanic plugs above Lake Moogerah, including the short, sharp climb of Mount Greville.
Walk prepared
Tracks vary widely in grade. Carry plenty of water, tell someone your plans, check conditions before you set out, and start early in the warmer months. Some of the higher routes are unmarked and should only be attempted with the right experience.
