From $899 pp twin-share 3 days, 2 nights heritage accommodation All meals included

The 3-day Scenic Rim weekend is our full-immersion Brisbane departure — the unhurried weekend that covers what the day tours can’t. Day 1 is essentially our Fassifern Heritage Loop with a Boonah-based overnight finish; Day 2 is the active Scenic Rim day with the Mt Greville Palm Gorge walk as the centrepiece; Day 3 is the Mt Barney scenic drive and a relaxed return to Brisbane via Rathdowney. The tour suits travellers who want the genuine Scenic Rim experience rather than a rushed day-trip selection, and is the natural choice for interstate visitors with a weekend window in Brisbane.

Accommodation is at one of our partner heritage country properties in or near Boonah — typically a heritage Queenslander B&B or a country farmstay, with private ensuite bathrooms and breakfast included. Twin-share is standard (single supplement available). All meals across the 3 days are included: 2 breakfasts at the accommodation, 3 lunches at heritage country pubs and cellar doors, 2 dinners at our partner Boonah venues. The transport is the same comfortable air-con coach across all 3 days; the guide stays with the group throughout.

Brisbane-based specialists since 1991. Weekly Friday-Sunday departures year-round, with the strongest seasons being late June through August (winter, Kalbar Sunflower Festival window, low humidity), March-May (autumn, mild weather), and September-November (spring, warming weather, wildflowers). Summer departures shift the active Day 2 walks earlier to avoid afternoon heat. The Mt Greville Palm Gorge walk is the most physically demanding section — moderate fitness required; we can adapt walks if travellers prefer to stay back at the coach.

Note: Mt Barney itself is a serious wilderness climb requiring full technical hiking experience — Day 3 is a scenic drive through the National Park, not a climb of the peak.

Honest answers before you book

Questions our Scenic Rim specialists answer most often about the 3-day weekend.

What’s the 3-day Scenic Rim weekend tour?

A 3-day, 2-night Brisbane-departing small-group tour. Day 1: Brisbane → Peak Crossing dawn arrival → Harrisville Summer Land Camels → Kalbar heritage walk → Boonah overnight. Day 2: Mt French sunrise → Mt Greville Palm Gorge walk → Lake Moogerah → Carr’s Lookout sunset → Boonah overnight. Day 3: Mt Barney NP scenic drive → Rathdowney → return Brisbane. Heritage country accommodation, all meals, transport included.

How much does the 3-day weekend cost?

From AUD $899 per person twin-share including Brisbane CBD pickup and return, 2 nights heritage country accommodation, all meals (7 total), comfortable air-con coach transport, the Cooee-certified guide for all 3 days, the Summer Land Camels farm tour and camel ride, Kooroomba Vineyards tasting flight, Mt Greville Palm Gorge guided walk, and all gratuities. Single supplement available (typically $180-280 for the weekend).

What’s the accommodation?

2 nights at one of our partner heritage country properties in or near Boonah — typically a heritage Queenslander B&B or a country farmstay (specific property varies by season and group size). All properties have private ensuite bathrooms, breakfast included, and the country-Queensland character we look for. Twin-share is standard; single supplement available.

How fit do I need to be?

The tour suits moderate fitness levels. The Mt Greville Palm Gorge walk on Day 2 is the most physically demanding section — approximately 4-6 km, moderately steep in places, takes 2-3 hours including the gorge exploration. The Mt French sunrise involves a short uphill walk to the lookout (10 minutes, easy). Carr’s Lookout has a sealed walk from the carpark. Mt Barney NP on Day 3 is a scenic drive with optional short walks. We can adapt walks if travellers prefer to stay back at the coach.

What about Mt Barney — do we climb it?

No — Mt Barney (1,359m) is a serious wilderness climb requiring full-day technical hiking experience and proper equipment, not suitable for a day-tour group. Our Day 3 visit is a scenic drive through Mt Barney National Park including the lower walking trails, the historic Bigriggen camping area views, and the wider Mt Barney country. The mountain is the dramatic visual anchor of the day, not a climbing objective.

Is the Kalbar Sunflower Festival included?

If your weekend coincides with the Kalbar Sunflower Festival (typically late July through August), we adjust the Day 1 schedule to include the festival visit — vast fields of sunflowers, market stalls, food vendors, the Show grounds in festival mode. Off-season weekends focus on the standard Kalbar heritage walk (Wiss Emporium, Postmaster’s Sweets, the Lutheran Church) without the festival overlay.

Can I customise the itinerary?

Private departures (minimum 6 travellers) can customise the itinerary — common variations include extending to Mt Tamborine on Day 3 (eastern Scenic Rim), swapping Mt Greville for Lamington National Park (rainforest day from O’Reilly’s), or adding additional cellar door tastings around Mount Alford. Standard weekly departures follow the standard itinerary above.

What’s the group size?

Hard cap of 24 travellers — most departures run with 14-20 people. The 3-day weekend in particular suits travellers who appreciate the small-group intimacy across 3 days; you’ll get to know the other travellers and your guide reasonably well. Solo travellers are common and welcome (twin-share roommate matching available).

When does the tour run?

Weekly Friday-Sunday departures year-round, with the strongest seasons being late June through August (winter, Kalbar Sunflower Festival window late July-August, Scenic Rim Eat Local Week late June-July) and March-May (autumn). Summer (December-February) departures shift earlier and include more shaded/indoor time. The Mt Greville Palm Gorge walk runs in all but the wettest conditions.

Whose Country does the tour visit?

The Fassifern Valley including Peak Crossing, Harrisville, Kalbar and Boonah is the Country of the Ugarapul (Yugarapul) people of the broader Yuggera language family. Mt Barney and the southern Scenic Rim are also significant in the broader Ugarapul cultural landscape. Cooee Tours acknowledges the Ugarapul as the Traditional Custodians and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
