From $229 per person 10 hours Brisbane return Max 24 travellers

The Fassifern Valley Heritage Loop is our most-booked Scenic Rim day tour from Brisbane — the full Fassifern Valley experience in a single, unrushed day. Starting before dawn at Brisbane CBD for the magic-hour arrival through Peak Crossing’s open pastoral country, then Harrisville for Summer Land Camels (Australia’s largest commercial camel dairy with a 600+ herd, daily farm tour, camel rides and the world-first camel milk vodka), then Kalbar for the 1876 German heritage main-street walk and a counter-meal lunch at the Royal Hotel, then Boonah for the heritage Butter Factory precinct and a tasting flight at Kooroomba Vineyards on the slopes of Mount Alford, finishing with Carr’s Lookout at sunset for the panoramic Fassifern view, back to Brisbane CBD by approximately 5pm.

The tour is designed for travellers who want depth rather than a shallow tick-the-boxes Scenic Rim day. The pacing allows two-hour heritage stops at each town, a proper sit-down lunch, and an unrushed Carr’s Lookout sunset rather than the rushed pull-up-and-photograph approach. It’s the tour we’d take our own family on if visiting from interstate. Small group (max 24, most departures 14–20), comfortable air-con coach, and a Cooee-certified Scenic Rim specialist guide who knows the heritage stories, the back-lane farm cottages, and the precise pull-off positions for the best dawn-light photography.

Brisbane-based since 1991, we’ve been running variations of this Fassifern circuit for 35 years. The Ugarapul people are the Traditional Custodians of the Fassifern Valley; we acknowledge Ugarapul Country throughout the tour and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. Departures run year-round; the standout seasons are late June through August (winter, low humidity, Eat Local Week and Kalbar Sunflower Festival alignment) and March-May (autumn, mild weather, beautiful light).

The day, hour by hour

The full tour timing — honest and detailed. The pacing is deliberately unrushed to allow proper depth at each stop.

  1. 6:30 am

    Brisbane CBD pickup

Pickup from major Brisbane CBD hotels (specific point confirmed at booking). Comfortable air-con coach, complimentary water and snacks for the drive. Your Cooee-certified Scenic Rim specialist will introduce the day, the Ugarapul Country we’ll be travelling on, and the Fassifern Valley story as we leave the city. Total drive Brisbane to Peak Crossing is about 50 minutes via the M2 and Ipswich.

  2. 7:30 am

Peak Crossing · Dawn-light pastoral country

Arrival at Peak Crossing for the magic-hour drive through the apple-tree flats and dairy paddocks — one of the best country-photography moments in south-east Queensland. We’ll pull off at the prime positions for the views back across the Moogerah Peaks. Country breakfast at the village (allow 45 minutes). The honesty-box farm-stall trail begins south of Peak Crossing along the Ipswich-Boonah Road.

  3. 9:00 am

    Harrisville · Summer Land Camels

Arrival at Harrisville for the morning farm tour at Summer Land Camels — Australia’s largest commercial camel dairy with a 600+ herd. The 1-hour guided farm tour explains the camel-dairying process and the Camel Milk Co. dairy range. Optional camel ride add-on available ($35 pp, book 48 hours ahead). The dairy tasting includes the world-first camel milk vodka. Short heritage walk on the Harrisville sandstone main street if time allows.

  4. 11:30 am

Kalbar · 1876 German heritage village

Arrival at Kalbar for the heritage main-street walk — the Wiss Emporium, the restored Herrmann House, Postmaster’s Sweets in the historic Post Office, the Lutheran Church, and the back-lane Brandenburg/Pomerania-style farm cottages from the 1876 German founding (when the village was originally named “Engelsburg”). Lunch at the Royal Hotel Kalbar — traditional country pub fare, generous portions, the warm Queensland country welcome.

  5. 1:30 pm

Boonah · Butter Factory precinct & Kooroomba

Short drive south to Boonah — the heritage Butter Factory precinct (1903), Arthur Clive’s Family Bakehouse for an afternoon coffee, then west to Kooroomba Vineyards on the slopes of Mount Alford for the afternoon tasting flight. Four wines, regional cheese board, exceptional country views back across the wider Fassifern. Walk through the lavender fields if in bloom (typically October-December and May-June).

  6. 3:30 pm

Carr’s Lookout · Golden hour Fassifern panorama

The final stop — the famous Carr’s Lookout above Mount Alford for the late-afternoon panoramic view across the Fassifern Valley to the volcanic Moogerah Peaks. The golden-hour light is the iconic Fassifern photograph. Allow 30-45 minutes for the lookout and the surrounding short walking trails. Light afternoon refreshments served at the lookout (pastries from Arthur Clive’s, regional cheeses).

  7. 5:00 pm

    Brisbane CBD return

Return drive Brisbane via Boonah-Ipswich-M2. Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes drive depending on Friday/weekend traffic. Drop-off at the same Brisbane CBD pickup points. We’ll provide drop-off coffee and water for the drive home. Departures arrive Brisbane CBD by approximately 5pm-5:30pm.

From travellers who’ve done the loop

Recent guests — their honest feedback on the Fassifern Heritage Loop pacing, value and highlights.

“The dawn arrival through Peak Crossing was the photographic highlight of our Queensland trip. Then Summer Land Camels was unexpected fun (the camel ride was the surprise hit of the day), the Kalbar heritage walk had real depth thanks to our guide’s storytelling, and the Royal Hotel lunch was generous Queensland country pub. Carr’s Lookout sunset finished the day perfectly. Best day-tour pacing we’ve done in Australia.”

Fassifern Heritage Loop · May 2026

Sydney, NSW

“Brought the kids (10 and 12) and they had a 5-star day. Summer Land Camels was the headline for them — the farm tour was the right length and the camel ride was the standout. Kalbar Postmaster’s Sweets was the lunch-time hit (let them choose 3 fudge varieties to take home). Family-friendly without being dumbed-down.”

Fassifern Heritage Loop · July 2025

Sunshine Coast, QLD

“Done other Scenic Rim tours that try to fit 7 things in — this is the one that does 5 properly. The pacing was the difference. Real time at Summer Land Camels (not 30 minutes), proper sit-down lunch at the Royal Hotel, an actual Kooroomba tasting flight with views, unhurried Carr’s Lookout. Worth the price.”

Fassifern Heritage Loop · April 2026

“The Kalbar heritage walk was the unexpected pleasure. Our guide knew the 1876 Engelsburg founding story, the back-lane farm cottages, the 1916 WWI renaming — depth I didn’t expect on a day tour. Then Summer Land Camels and the camel milk vodka tasting were the headlines I came for. Whole day exceeded my expectations.”

Honest answers before you book

Questions our Scenic Rim specialists answer most often about the Fassifern Heritage Loop tour.

What is the Fassifern Valley Heritage Loop tour?

The Fassifern Valley Heritage Loop is a full-day Brisbane-departing small-group tour that covers the four Fassifern Valley heritage towns — Peak Crossing (dawn arrival), Harrisville (Summer Land Camels), Kalbar (1876 German heritage village) and Boonah (commercial heart) — plus Carr’s Lookout above Mount Alford for a sunset finish. Roughly 10 hours total, Brisbane CBD pickup ~6:30am, return ~5pm. Small group (max 24), comfortable air-con coach, all meals included.

How much does the Fassifern Heritage Loop cost?

The tour is priced from AUD $229 per person including Brisbane CBD pickup, comfortable air-con coach transport, a Cooee-certified Scenic Rim specialist guide, the Summer Land Camels farm tour (excluding the optional camel ride add-on), the Kalbar heritage main-street walk, country lunch at the Royal Hotel Kalbar, an afternoon tasting flight at Kooroomba Vineyards, and the Carr’s Lookout sunset stop. Pricing is per person twin-share basis. Solo travellers welcome.

Where does the tour pick up?

Pickup is from Brisbane CBD hotels (standard 8am pickup) or earlier 6:30am for travellers who want the dawn-light Peak Crossing arrival included. Gold Coast pickups available on request for a small surcharge. Return is to the same Brisbane CBD locations by approximately 5pm. Specific pickup point will be confirmed at booking.

Is the camel ride at Summer Land Camels included?

The Summer Land Camels farm tour and dairy tasting are included in the standard tour price. The optional camel ride add-on is available for an additional $35 per person and must be booked at least 48 hours ahead (limited capacity). The world-first camel milk vodka tasting flight is included as part of the standard dairy tasting.

How many people are on the tour?

Cooee Tours runs a hard cap of 24 travellers per departure — most tours run with 14–20 people. The Fassifern Heritage Loop in particular tends to attract heritage travellers, foodies and day-trippers from Brisbane who appreciate the small-group format and the unrushed pacing.

Is the tour family-friendly?

Yes — the tour suits families with children 8+ (the Summer Land Camels farm tour and camel rides are particular hits with kids, the Kalbar heritage walk includes the Postmaster’s Sweets fudge shop in the historic Post Office, and the lunch at the Royal Hotel is generous and kid-friendly). Under-12s receive a 35% discount. Prams are challenging on parts of the Kalbar back-lane heritage walk; main-street walking is easy.

Whose Country does the tour visit?

The Fassifern Valley is the Country of the Ugarapul (Yugarapul) people of the broader Yuggera language family. The wider valley historically sat at the intersection of trade and gathering routes connecting coastal Yuggera and Jagera Country with the inland Bunya Mountains gatherings. Cooee Tours acknowledges the Ugarapul as the Traditional Custodians and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.

What if it rains?

The tour runs in all weather — the Fassifern is rarely a wet-weather problem. Heavy storm-season afternoons (November-March) can briefly close minor local roads; the Cunningham Highway from Ipswich is generally weather-resilient. If conditions are severe enough to compromise the day (extreme heat warnings, dangerous storms, road closures), Cooee will postpone and reschedule. Standard light rain doesn’t affect the tour as most experiences are indoor (Summer Land Camels, Kalbar heritage buildings, lunch at the Royal Hotel).

When does the tour run?

The Fassifern Heritage Loop runs year-round, with the strongest seasons being late June through August (winter, low humidity, Eat Local Week and Kalbar Sunflower Festival alignment) and March-May (autumn, mild weather). Summer departures (December-February) shift the schedule earlier to avoid afternoon heat. Departures are typically Wednesday through Sunday; check the booking calendar for current availability.

Can I combine this with other Cooee tours?

Yes — the Fassifern Heritage Loop pairs well as Day 1 of the 3-day Scenic Rim weekend (which adds Mt French sunrise, Palm Gorge, Mt Barney). It also pairs naturally with our Mt Tamborine Wine Tour as a Day 2 (different Scenic Rim sub-region, eastern wine country). For travellers based in Brisbane for longer, our Brisbane day tours can be combined into multi-day itineraries.
