At the peninsula’s far south-western tip, Cape Jervis is the jumping-off point for one of Australia’s great island escapes. From here the SeaLink ferry crosses the Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island in about 45 minutes, carrying cars and foot passengers alike. Even if you’re not sailing, the cape rewards the drive down — a lighthouse, big sea views and the trailhead of the Heysen Trail, right beside the wilds of Deep Creek.
