Beyond the core, Ponsonby is a hip, restaurant-lined suburb of villas and boutique stays; leafy, historic Parnell sits near the Domain and museum; and the eastern beach suburbs of Mission Bay and Takapuna offer a relaxed seaside base close to town. Auckland fills and prices climb over summer (late Dec–Feb) and around concerts and major events, so book ahead for those dates.
