Perched 550 metres above sea level on a 28km² volcanic plateau in the Scenic Rim, Tamborine Mountain produces some of Queensland's most distinctive boutique wines. The plateau itself is the legacy of a Mount Warning eruption around 22 million years ago — its red volcanic topsoil, fed by 1,550mm of annual rainfall, gives the local vineyards a terroir that consistently surprises first-time visitors.
Cooee Tours has been running guided day trips from Brisbane and the Gold Coast for five decades — that's 50+ years of relationships with the winemakers, restaurateurs, and venues on the mountain. Which means you'll get intimate cellar door access, meet the people behind the labels, and skip the queues at the busier estates. Group size capped at 11 guests for personal pacing.
The mountain itself sits on Wangerriburra Country, a clan of the Yugambeh language group, who lived on this plateau for tens of thousands of years before European arrival. The name "Tamborine" derives from "Jambreen" — meaning "wild lime tree," referencing the native finger limes growing across the plateau. Witches Falls on the mountain became Queensland's first national park in 1908.
