Getting around Queenstown
Queenstown is a walker's town. The centre, lakefront and gardens are all easily on foot, so you'll cover the heart of it without wheels. Beyond that, an easy bus network, water taxis, the gondola and seasonal ski shuttles do the job, while a hire car earns its keep for day trips and the ski fields. Here's how to move around with ease.
On foot, bus & water taxi
Most of what you want is within walking distance — the town centre, waterfront, gardens and restaurants cluster around Queenstown Bay. The Orbus buses cover Frankton, the airport and Arrowtown for a low flat fare (cheapest with a Bee Card), water taxis cross the bay, and the Skyline Gondola lifts you above town. Ski shuttles, cars & tours
For the ski fields, easy shuttles run to Coronet Peak and The Remarkables, so you skip the mountain roads. For day trips — Arrowtown, Glenorchy, Wānaka, the wineries and Milford — a hire car gives freedom, or a guided tour takes the driving off your hands (ideal for Milford and wine days). Parking & practicalities
Town-centre parking is limited and paid and busy in peak season, so central stays are best explored on foot. There's more parking at Frankton.
