Is the Capricorn Coast part of the Great Barrier Reef?

How is the Southern Reef different from Cairns or the Whitsundays?

What marine life will I see?

Expect coral gardens, tropical fish, sea turtles and rays; in winter, humpback whales pass through Keppel Bay on migration. Manta rays and reef sharks are seen at times. See our whale watching guide.

Is it safe to swim — what about stingers?

Marine stingers are present in the warmer months (roughly November–May); take local advice, wear a stinger suit for snorkelling, and swim in patrolled areas when flagged. The cooler dry season is the most comfortable for reef days.
