The two experiences kids remember forever: a whale-watching cruise in season — comfortable half-day trips on calm water, with breaching humpbacks up close — and a K'gari 4WD adventure, swimming in Lake McKenzie and riding the beach highway. The K'gari day tour is long for little ones (consider a shorter or two-day option), but the sense of wild-Australia adventure is unbeatable. Both are family favourites for good reason.
Making it easy
A few tips: base yourself near the Esplanade so beaches, parks and dining are walkable; choose morning whale cruises and pack hats, sunscreen and snacks; and for K'gari with young kids, keep the day gentle or split it over two days.
