Every winter, humpback whales travelling home to Antarctica detour into the calm waters behind K'gari, and Hervey Bay becomes one of the best places on Earth to see them. It was named the world's first Whale Heritage Site in 2019 for exactly this reason.
Our half-day cruise heads into Platypus Bay where the whales gather. Expect breaching, tail-slapping, spy-hopping — and the unforgettable moment a curious humpback 'mugs' the boat, drifting alongside for a closer look at you.

Season & sea conditions
Whale cruises run only during the season (roughly mid-July to late October), with the most active weeks in August and September. Morning departures usually mean the calmest seas and the best light. If you're prone to seasickness, take precautions before boarding.
