Fraser Coast · 2-day combo
Whales one day, K’gari the next
Hervey Bay's two signature experiences, back to back, with one night's hotel stay in between. A full-day humpback whale cruise and a full-day K’gari 4WD tour — no choosing required.
At a glance
The short version
Two full activity days, one overnight, based entirely in Hervey Bay.
Day by day
Two days, two icons
Both days run as full-day guided experiences, with your overnight stay in Hervey Bay in between.
Day 1 · Whale watching
A full day with the humpbacks
A full-day cruise from Urangan Harbour, with lunch on board. Hervey Bay's sheltered waters mean humpback whales rest here for two to three days at a time rather than passing through, so encounters are typically longer and calmer than open-ocean whale watching elsewhere on the coast. Available July through November.
After the cruise, you'll check into your Hervey Bay hotel for the night. The evening is free — the Esplanade has a good run of restaurants if you'd like recommendations from your tour leader.
Day 2 · K’gari
A full day on the world's largest sand island
After breakfast, the full-day guided 4WD bus tour across to K’gari, with lunch included. Central Station rainforest, a swim at Lake McKenzie, a float down Eli Creek, and the Maheno shipwreck. NPWS permit and barge crossing handled for you. You'll return to Hervey Bay in the late afternoon, where the tour concludes.

Common questions
Which day is the whale cruise and which is K’gari?
On most departures the whale cruise runs first, followed by the K’gari day tour, with the overnight hotel stay in between. The exact order can vary depending on weather and vessel availability in whale season, so your tour leader will confirm the running order a day or two before departure.
Is this combo available outside whale season?
The whale cruise component only runs July to November, so the combo as described is a whale-season product. Outside that window, the K’gari day tour is still available on its own, or paired with our Hervey Bay Weekend Escape, which offers K’gari year-round.
What's included in the 2-day combo?
The full-day whale-watching cruise with lunch on board, the full-day K’gari 4WD tour with lunch, NPWS permit and barge crossing, one night's hotel accommodation in Hervey Bay, and a Cooee tour leader throughout. Breakfast on the morning of the K’gari day is included; transport to and from Brisbane is not included in this product, but can be added — ask your specialist.
How fit do I need to be for this tour?
Both days suit most fitness levels. The whale cruise involves a full day on a boat with seating and shaded deck areas; anyone prone to seasickness should plan accordingly, even though Hervey Bay's sheltered waters are calmer than open-ocean whale watching. The K’gari day involves walking on sand at several stops (boardwalks, a beach walk, steps at Lake McKenzie) but no strenuous hiking.
Can I add Brisbane transport or extra nights to this combo?
Yes. This combo is priced as the Hervey Bay component only, so return coach transport from Brisbane, extra nights either side, or an upgrade to our full Hervey Bay Weekend Escape package can all be added at booking. Let your Cooee specialist know what you'd like included.
