An Institution of Queensland Craft

Eumundi village, fifteen minutes north of Noosa, holds Queensland's most enduring market tradition. Founded in 1979 by a small group of local artists who wanted to share their work directly with the community, the Original Eumundi Markets have grown to over six hundred stalls — every one of them rigorously hand-curated by the Eumundi Markets Trust. Every stall sells work made by the seller. No resale. No mass-produced imports. No middlemen.

Forty-seven years on, the markets operate on Wednesdays (8am-1:30pm) and Saturdays (7am-2pm) only. Saturday is the larger and more atmospheric — six hundred-plus stalls, four to six live music acts, and the full hot-food line-up of wood-fired pizza, fresh juices, Asian street food, gourmet coffee, paleo pies, and sourdough. Wednesday is smaller (around three hundred stalls) but more relaxed, with the same producers and a calmer browsing pace. The whole market sits beneath a permanent tree-shaded pavilion of mature Australian natives at 80 Memorial Drive — cool even in Queensland summer.

Cooee Tours' Eumundi Markets Day Tour is purpose-built for these market days. We don't run on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays — only Wednesday and Saturday, the days Eumundi actually opens. Three packages let you tailor the day: half-day pure market from Sunshine Coast pickup, full-day market plus the hinterland villages of Maleny and Montville, or full-day Brisbane CBD pickup pairing the market with a Noosa Main Beach afternoon. Pickup, coach, expert local guide, return drop-off — all sorted.

An honest framing. Eumundi sits ninety minutes north of Brisbane and fifteen minutes west of Noosa. Cooee Tours is Brisbane-based since 1974; our partner brand Sunshine Coast Bus Lines (SCBL) is based at Kunda Park — a twenty-minute drive from Eumundi. For this tour SCBL provides the coaches and drivers; Cooee designs the tour content, the guide commentary, and is your single point of contact for booking and customer service. Both brands operate to professional safety standards under Waggie Group governance. Eumundi sits on Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) Country.

What to Expect at Eumundi

Six Highlights of the Market Day

600+ Handmade Stalls

Every stall sells work made by the seller. No resale, no imports. Categories span original art, ceramics, jewellery, leather, soaps, clothing, books, candles, glassware, woodwork. The Eumundi Markets Trust hand-selects every stall holder.

Hinterland Fresh Produce

Bauple macadamias, Maleny avocados, hinterland honey, free-range eggs, sourdough loaves, Maleny cheese, fresh herbs. The Saturday market has the largest produce section; Wednesday is smaller but the same producers.

8-12 Hot Food Vendors

Wood-fired pizza, Pad Thai, paleo pies, gourmet sausage rolls, açaí bowls, Italian gelato, third-wave coffee. Budget $15-25 for lunch. Vegan, gluten-free, halal options available. Plenty of seating in the food court area.

Live Music All Day

4-6 musicians scheduled across two performance areas — acoustic guitar, blues, folk, world music, occasional didgeridoo. Buskers also play around the perimeter. Free; tips appreciated.

Wheelchair-Accessible

Paved pathways throughout the pavilion, flat terrain, accessible toilets, seating areas. Cooee/SCBL coaches available with wheelchair access on request (advise at booking). Strollers and prams welcome.

Tree-Shaded Pavilion

The markets sit beneath a mature canopy of native Australian trees including giant Moreton Bay figs. Cool even in Queensland summer. Free water refill stations throughout. ATMs and public toilets on-site.

Insider Tips · From Our Guides

What to Look For at Eumundi

A few of the stalls and products our guides quietly recommend — fresh as of 2026, subject to seasonal variation. Bring cash AND card; most stalls take both but some smaller artisans are cash-only.

Hinterland Produce

Maleny Cheese & Bauple Macadamias

Maleny Cheese sells direct from their factory — try the persian feta and the triple-cream brie. Bauple macadamias (just up the road) are unroasted single-origin nuts, totally different from supermarket. Honey from the Maleny apiaries (raw, unfiltered) is also outstanding.

Original Art

Pottery & Painting

Several hinterland-based potters bring their wheel-thrown work — wood-fired and oxidation pieces in the $30-150 range. Original paintings of Glass House Mountains, hinterland forests, and coastal scenes; ask for the artist's card if you want a commission later.

Hot Food

Wood-Fired Pizza & Paleo Pies

The wood-fired pizza van at the south end consistently runs a queue worth joining. Paleo pies (free-range beef, lamb) from the Lockyer Valley pastoral families are a market institution. Vegan açaí bowls in the middle food court are reliably good.

Wearables

Linen, Leather & Jewellery

Australian-designed linen clothing is a staple of the market — practical for the Queensland climate and beautifully made. Leather goods (handmade wallets, belts, journals) sit in the $50-200 range. Silver and gemstone jewellery direct from designers — Boulder opal is the local specialty.

What Eumundi Tour Guests Say

★★★★★

"The half-day Eumundi package was perfect for a Saturday with my mum. Pickup was on time, our guide knew every food vendor and stall worth visiting, and the 2.5 hours was just right. Came home with two bags of Maleny cheese, hand-blown glass earrings, and a paleo pie for the drive."

★★★★★

"Did the Eumundi + Maleny + Montville combo with my husband — eight hours felt like four. The hinterland villages after the markets was a genius pairing. Mary Cairncross lookout had the clearest Glass House Mountains views I've seen. The Cooee guide was a Maleny local and gave us tips for next time."

Peter & Janet H.
Caloundra · Full-day hinterland
★★★★★

"We were day-tripping from Brisbane and Cooee made the full Eumundi + Noosa day completely effortless. Six-thirty pickup felt early but we'd had breakfast at Eumundi by nine and the coach time both ways gave us a great regional commentary. Noosa Main Beach afternoon was the perfect counterbalance to a busy market morning."

Cooee Tours Brisbane-based since 1974.
What is the Aboriginal Country?+
Eumundi sits on the traditional country of the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people. Eumundi village takes its name from a Kabi Kabi elder, Huan Mundi (Ngumundi), who lived in the region during the late nineteenth century. The Kabi Kabi First Nation Aboriginal Corporation maintains a contemporary cultural presence on the Sunshine Coast. The market days echo traditional Bunya nut gathering ceremonies.

Sunshine Coast Hinterland

Eumundi & the Surrounding Region

Eumundi village (population ~1,800) sits in the rolling green country between the Bruce Highway and the Blackall Range hinterland. The village itself is small — a single high street, a handful of cafés, a feed store, the iconic Imperial Hotel pub. But on Wednesdays and Saturdays the population swells by ten thousand as the markets transform the village green into Queensland's largest open-air craft and produce gathering.

Fifteen minutes east you reach Noosa Heads and the National Park; thirty minutes south is Mooloolaba and the central coast; forty minutes west takes you up into the Blackall Range with the villages of Maleny and Montville. The Glass House Mountains rise to the south. The whole region falls within Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) and Jinibara Country, with a rich pre-colonial history of Bunya nut gathering ceremonies that brought Aboriginal nations together from across south-east Queensland every three years.

Acknowledgement of Country. Cooee Tours acknowledges the Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi) people as the traditional custodians of the Eumundi region and the Sunshine Coast, and the Jinibara people of the hinterland and Glass House Mountains. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge their continuing connection to country, waters, and culture.
