Highlights

Beginner to Intermediate

Lessons tailored to your exact level — whether you've never stood on a board or you're looking to improve your pop-up and wave selection. No experience required to start.

Expert Local Instructors

Our instructors have surfed the Gold Coast their whole lives and hold current surf coaching accreditation. They know exactly which beach suits which conditions each day.

All Equipment Provided

Softboard, wetsuit, leg rope and safety vest all included. You just need swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and enthusiasm. No need to rent anything separately.

Small Groups — Max 8

Unlike large surf schools, we cap at 8 guests per instructor for genuine one-to-one feedback in the water and real-time coaching that makes a lasting difference.

Optional Video Footage

Add a photo/video package to capture your wave-catching moments. A professional surfing video is one of the best Gold Coast holiday souvenirs imaginable.

Family-Friendly

Family passes available — child-sized boards and wetsuits in all sizes. A surfing lesson is one of the most memorable things a family can do together on the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast Break-Down

10 Gold Coast
Surf Spots

From beginner-friendly sandy breaks to world-class point breaks — here's your complete guide to the Gold Coast's best surf. Our instructors select the optimal location each day based on current swell, wind and tide conditions.

Mermaid Beach
🟢 Beginner
0.5–1m

Long stretch with multiple consistent sandbanks. Early mornings in Autumn and Winter offer uncrowded, forgiving waves — ideal for first-timers. Multiple banks mean there's always a spot with the right conditions.

Sandy BottomConsistentBest Mornings
Greenmount
🟢 Beg–Inter
0.5–1.5m

Overhead hollow walls on bigger days (part of the Superbank), but small clean days are ideal for beginners and longboarders. One of the most scenic beaches on the Gold Coast with great café access after your lesson.

Superbank EndLongboard FriendlyScenic
Currumbin Alley
🟢 Beginner
0.5–1.2m

Right-hand point break at Currumbin Creek mouth — best on low tide with 1m+ south-east swells. Long, rolling waves that give learners plenty of time to stand up. One of Queensland's most loved learner breaks.

Point BreakLong RidesLow Tide Best
Surfers Paradise
🟢 Beginner
0.5–1m

Busy beach with consistent, manageable beach break waves. Great for complete beginners who want to combine their surf lesson with the energy of the city strip. Early mornings before the beach fills up are best.

Central LocationConsistentCity Access
Tugun
🟡 Intermediate
0.8–1.8m

Varied banks along the southern stretch — good for intermediates and families. Multiple peaks spread out the crowd. Check wind conditions for the best bank — our instructors know exactly which section is firing on any given day.

Multiple BanksUncrowdedSouth Coast
Durranbah (D'Bah)
🟡 Intermediate
0.8–2m

Punchy hollow waves at the southern end of the Superbank. Best avoided at high tide. Paddle out from the southern rock wall for the easiest lineup access. Excellent for intermediates working on tube-riding fundamentals.

SuperbankHollow WavesLow–Mid Tide
Kirra
🟡 All Levels
0.8–2.5m

World-class tubes with strong south/south-east swells but a relaxed spot for all skill levels on smaller days. Jet skis assist on big days. Kirra's history as one of the world's best waves makes it a genuinely special place to surf.

World ClassRight-HandSE Swell
Snapper Rocks
🔴 Inter–Advanced
0.8–2.5m

Home of the Gold Coast Pro and the Superbank's crown jewel. Sand-bottom point break with waves from waist-high to double overhead. Entry via the keyhole. An aspirational spot for developing intermediates wanting a taste of world-class surf.

Gold Coast ProSuperbankPoint Break
Burleigh Heads
🔴 Inter–Advanced
1–2.5m

Fast racetrack waves and scenic point breaks — rising mid-tide is safer here due to the rock shelf. One of Queensland's most photographed surf spots with powerful, performance waves and one of the most beautiful surf backdrops on the coast.

Point BreakMid Tide BestRock Shelf
South Stradbroke
🔴 Advanced
1.5–3m+

Known locally as TOS or Straddie — powerful beach break A-frames suitable for intermediates and advanced surfers seeking something beyond the mainland. An island surf experience with powerful, uncrowded waves worth the boat ride over.

Seasonal
Surf Conditions

The Gold Coast surf is good year-round, but each season brings different conditions. Here's what to expect — and which season is best for your skill level.

Autumn
March — May
✦ Best for Beginners

Smaller, cleaner waves with offshore winds and stable conditions. Uncrowded breaks at Mermaid Beach and Currumbin Alley. Our most popular season for first-timers.

Winter
June — August
✦ Best for Beginners

Crystal clear water, manageable waves, excellent offshore winds. Water temperature drops (17–19°C — wetsuits provided). Greenmount and Currumbin Alley shine in winter.

Spring
Sep — November
◆ Good for All Levels

Improving intermediate conditions — Snapper Rocks, D'Bah and Burleigh begin to show their best. Beginners can still find good waves at Mermaid and Currumbin.

Summer
Dec — February
▲ Best for Intermediate

Larger swells challenge intermediates and give beginners a taste of more powerful surf. South Stradbroke and Surfers Paradise remain consistent. Warm water (24–27°C).

"Took the family pass with our 8 and 11 year old. Both kids were up and riding by the end of the session — the instructor knew exactly how to make it fun for them without making the adults feel like afterthoughts. Fantastic value."

"Did the intermediate session to break through my pop-up problem and it worked. The instructor identified exactly what I was doing wrong and fixed it in about 20 minutes. Went from getting smashed to actually surfing properly."
