Where Is Hope Island?

The Refined Northern Gold Coast

Hope Island QLD, postcode 4212, sits on the northern Gold Coast on the Coomera River, approximately 25 km north of Surfers Paradise and 60 km south of Brisbane. Where Surfers brings the high-rises and Burleigh brings the surf-town soul, Hope Island brings the marina, the golf course, and the yacht. It’s the most distinctly refined corner of the Gold Coast — canal estates, championship golf, fine dining, and a calmer pace built around the waterway rather than the surf.

The suburb is anchored by the Hope Island Marina (200+ berths, retail and dining along the waterfront) and the Hope Island Resort Golf Course — a championship 18-hole layout designed by five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson. Immediately adjacent sits Sanctuary Cove, the famous 1980s master-planned resort featuring Arnold Palmer’s Pines course, The Palms course and the Marine Village retail precinct.

Hope Island is also a strategic base for fly-drive Gold Coast travellers: Movie World, Wet’n’Wild and Paradise Country are all 10-15 minutes south at Oxenford; the G:Link light rail terminus at Helensvale is 10 minutes south, connecting directly to Surfers Paradise; and Brisbane is just over an hour up the M1. There’s no swimming beach in Hope Island itself, but Main Beach is 15 minutes south.

Hope Island Weather

When to Visit

Hope Island enjoys the same warm subtropical climate as the rest of the Gold Coast. Golfers and boaties favour autumn and winter for the cleanest playing conditions.

Summer (Dec-Feb)
25-30°C

Peak season — warm, humid afternoons, with thunderstorms common in January and February. Marinas at their busiest with peak boating season. Golf is playable but humidity can be challenging; tee off at sunrise for the best conditions.

Autumn (Mar-May)
22-26°C

The best golfing weather of the year. Warm but dry, low humidity, light winds. Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in late May is the highlight of the calendar — book accommodation early. Excellent marina conditions for cruising.

Winter (Jun-Aug)
12-22°C

Mild, dry, sunny days — peak golf season. Cool mornings and pleasant 22°C afternoons. Calm waterways for cruising. Best value accommodation rates. The Coomera River is at its clearest.

Spring (Sep-Nov)
18-26°C

Warming weather, marinas filling up, golf conditions still excellent. Hope Island is largely insulated from the Schoolies Week chaos in November — making it the perfect quiet Gold Coast base when central Surfers Paradise is at peak chaos.
