The Garden City on the range
Toowoomba sits high on the Great Dividing Range escarpment, which gives it a cooler climate, leafy streets and sweeping views east toward the Lockyer Valley. It is an easy day trip or overnight from Brisbane, roughly 125 kilometres west.
What to do
- Gardens and parklands — Queens Park and the city's many heritage gardens, at their best in spring.
- Picnic Point — the signature escarpment lookout, with walking tracks and range views.
- Street art — a growing collection of large-scale murals through the CBD laneways.
- Cobb+Co Museum — horse-drawn heritage and changing exhibitions.
Best time to come
September is the marquee month, when the Carnival of Flowers fills the parks and gardens. The cooler months are pleasant year-round for walking the escarpment and exploring the CBD.
